Purpose:

1. It is primarily used as a gas dehydrating agent and an aromatic hydrocarbon extraction solvent. It also serves as a solvent for cellulose nitrate, resins, oils, printing inks, and other materials; as a softening and finishing agent for textiles; and for extracting coumarone and indene from coal tar. In addition, diethylene glycol is employed as a brake fluid additive, a plasticizer for celluloid, an antifreeze, and a diluent in emulsion polymerization. It is further utilized in the production of rubber and resin plasticizers, polyester resins, fiberglass, urethane foams, and lubricant viscosity improvers. It is also used in the synthesis of unsaturated polyester resins, among other applications.
