Phthalic anhydride Also known as phthalic anhydride, it is an organic compound with the molecular formula C8H4O3 and CAS number 85-44-9. It is a cyclic acid anhydride formed by intramolecular dehydration of phthalic acid. It appears as a white crystalline powder, insoluble in cold water, slightly soluble in hot water and ether, and soluble in ethanol, pyridine, benzene, carbon disulfide, and other solvents. Phthalic anhydride is an important raw material in organic chemical synthesis and serves as a key intermediate in the production of phthalate ester plasticizers, coatings, saccharin, dyes, and various organic compounds.

Storage method:

Equip the storage area with appropriate fire‑fighting equipment of the correct type and quantity. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain leaks.
